Milton G. Schafer Sr., 95, of Allegan, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at Allegan General Hospital. Mr. Schafer was born October 25, 1920 in Hopkins, Michigan, the son of the late Henry E. and Elfrieda (Puschel) Schafer. He was part of a big family, being one of fourteen children. Milt was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and worked 30 years for Rockwell International. Milt enjoyed life and especially loved to garden and fish. One of his favorite past-times was going out to eat, not just for the food, but for the company as well. Milt is survived by his 5 children: Brenda and Dave Grimm, Carol and Bill Houser, Vicki and Dave Emmons, Roxann and Ken VanHorn, and Leland Schafer; 1 daughter-in-law, Bernie Schafer; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Emma Essenburgh; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his son, Milton Schafer Jr.; 7 sisters; and 5 brothers. Friends may meet with the family on Monday, March 7th from 5-7 pm at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.
