Seneca, SC, formerly of Allegan, MI, and Zephyrhills, FL passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2007 in South Carolina. Mr. Kitchel was born Sept. 4, 1912 in Allegan, the son of George and Anna (McCorkel) Kitchel. He graduated from Allegan High School, class of 1930. He had been employed at Carl Blanz Chevrolet, Tri-State College in Angola, IN and V. J. Reynolds Chevrolet as a mechanic. In support of the war effort, he went to work for Trans World Airlines as a mechanic and his career led to promotions as Maintenance Foreman and finally to Senior Field Service Engineer. He was a TWA employee for 33 years and worked in numerous airport locations from coast to coast. He retired to Sleepy Hollow Mobile Estates in Zephyrhills, FL. In retirement, he developed a love for shuffleboard and excelled at this sport, winning numerous tournaments. He also was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Clara (Kipen), in 2002. Surviving are 1 daughter and her husband, Joan and Robert Stromberg of Seneca, SC; grandson, Todd Stromberg of Alexandria, VA and several nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held Monday, July 23, at 10 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Alan P. Jorgensen, Celebrant. Interment in the Church Cemetery.
