Melvin F. Miller, age 93, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the Allegan County Medical Care Community in Allegan. Mr. Miller was born on April 27, 1922 in Cheshire Township, the son of the late Frank and Clara (Haley) Miller. Mel was a 1940 graduate of Bloomingdale High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Merchant Marines. Melvin worked 30 years for Rockwell International, retiring in 1977. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting and gardening. After gathering his produce and fish, Mel loved to share his good fortune and spent time dropping off these goodies to others. People loved to see him coming through their door, knowing fresh produce and fish were going to be on their dinner menu soon. Mel is survived by his 3 children: Greg and Laura Miller, Scott and Ann Miller; and Diane and Duane Moore; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene and sister, Grace Mount. There will be a military graveside service at Mallory Cemetery, on Saturday, February 13th at 5:00 PM, Rory Moore officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held directly following the graveside service at Hartman Conference Center, 690 N. Eastern Ave., Allegan.
