Holland, MI, formerly of Allegan and Kalamazoo, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital, Kalamazoo. Melissa was born May 17, 1967 in Allegan, the daughter of Bruce and Marva (Shimmons) Chappell. She was a 1985 graduate of Allegan High School and had been a cheerleader and ran track. She had been employed by Donnelly Corp in Holland and had also worked for a Kalamazoo Florist. She was a talented artist, enjoyed pottery, painting, cooking and music. Surviving are 2 children, Joshua A. Davison of Allegan and Patrick C. Minnema of Holland; 1 grandson, Joseph Quinn Bazzett of Traverse City; parents, Bruce and Marva Chappell of Allegan; 1 brother, Jeffrey S. Chappell of Allegan; 2 sisters, Dalene R. and Brian Anson of Plainwell and Michelle J. Chappell of Kentwood; 2 nieces, 4 nephews, 2 great nieces, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends may meet with the family from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan Twp. Pastor Steve Burrow from the Otsego Church of God officiating. Contributions may be made to Elijah House in Holland.
