Obituary

of Battle Creek, formerly of Williamston, died on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at North Pointe Woods Assisted Living Community in Battle Creek, where she received excellent care from the staff. Isabelle was born March 9, 1908, in Leslie, Michigan, the daughter of Raymond C. and Ethel M. (Norton) Blackmore. She graduated from Leslie High School and worked as a stenographer at Consumers Power Company in Jackson for 5 years, she worked as a partner in the Gibbs Oil Company with her husband for many years, and as a secretary for Bob Lewis Loan Company, and for Victor Meyer, Attorney at Law. Isabelle married her High School sweetheart, Paul W. Gibbs in 1927, and they moved to Williamston in 1937. Isabelle was active in the Methodist Church, past president of the Child Study Club, a member of the Eastern Star, Band Boosters, P.T.A.'s, Scouting, and a 25 year volunteer for the Ingham County Cancer Society Board. Her hobbies included; knitting many sweaters for family, writing letters and corresponding with loved ones, sharing stories and history. She and Paul enjoyed traveling and sight seeing around her beloved Michigan, and followed with interest and support the many activities of her family. She enjoyed PBS, travelogues, music, and especially following her MSU Spartans, "Go Green". She is survived by her 2 children; Ann Kathryn and Bill Discher of Battle Creek, and George and Gen "Honey" Gibbs of Alma, 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild. They also sponsored 2 children thru World Vision in Haiti. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her daughter, Martha Gubry, and her sister, Kathryn Farley. Private family services were held at Leslie Baptist Church. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, in Leslie. Memorials may be made to the North Pointe Woods Senior Residence in Battle Creek, 700 North Ave., Battle Creek, MI 49017. Arrangements by the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.
