of Allegan passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the Allegan Medical Care Facility at the age of 83. Joann was born in Sterling, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas and Esther (Lee) Carney. She graduated with a Bachelors from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. After receiving her degree she worked as a Registered Nurse. She was also a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Surviving are her son, Bob and Kathy Root, her 4 grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan, Jayne and Molly, and many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Root, her brother, Lee Carney, and her infant sister Patricia. Friends may meet with the family on Monday from 6-8 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the Rosary will be recited at 6 pm. Mass of Christian burial will take place Tuesday at 11 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Alan P. Jorgensen, Celebrant. Interment Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Cemetery, Allegan.
