Mary Ellen Simmons, 79 of Allegan, went to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Holland Hospital. Mrs. Simmons was born March 28, 1939 in Allegan, Michigan, the daughter of the late William and Blanche (Thompson) Callaway. Mary Ellen was a member of Life Circle. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and adult coloring books. She also spent her time embroidering pillow cases - a true lost art. Some of her best times though were the times that she got to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary Ellen had a great way of making each of them feel special and loved. Her presence in their lives and her children's lives made a true and lasting impact. Mary Ellen is survived by three of her children: Cleve (Katie) Simmons, Richard Simmons (Shelly Johnson), Mickey (Keith) Jackson; 10 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cleve Alonzo Simmons; their daughter, Kandi Kay Simmons and 12 siblings. Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM, General David Grindle officiating. Memorials may be made in Mary's name to the Salvation Army (The Salvation Army-Donation Processing, 1215 Fulton St. E, Grand Rapids MI 49503). Interment at Poplar Hill Cemetery, Monterey Township. Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.
