Allegan, MI, died Friday, March 9, 2007 at his home. Mr. Nielsen was born April 9, 1936 in Allegan, the third son of Adler and Ethel (Clark) Nielsen. He was a graduate of Allegan High School, Class of 1954 and had been employed at Rockwell Int'l for 27 A½ years as a millwright. He also worked as a meat cutter in Allegan and had owned and operated Quality Home Repair Service from the early 1960's until recently. His other passion was farming. He was a hard worker, but enjoyed play time as well. As a young couple, Mart and June enjoyed water skiing, square dancing, playing cards, bowling and camping. He was an accomplished boxer in Golden Gloves and remained an avid boxing fan throughout his life. He was especially devoted to his family and friends and many turned to him for his mechanical expertise. He taught his children to put in an honest day's work and to stand up for what they believed. He was always supportive of their hobbies and often joined in to help. He delighted in his grandchildren, often teasing them. Marty's most recent job, and perhaps his most important, was caring for his grandson since birth. Marty lived a full and happy life and touched the lives of countless people with his wisdom, humor and compassion. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, June (Kaylor), whom he married June 17, 1955; 2 children and their spouses, Donald and Kristen Nielsen of Otsego and Sheryl and Robert Parrish, Jr. of Allegan; 3 grandchildren, Lindsey and Karlie Nielsen of Otsego and Nathan Parrish of Allegan; his "adopted" kids, Leroy and Shelly Grauman of Allegan; 2 brothers and their spouses, Harry and Carrie Nielsen and Alden and Eleanor Nielsen, all of Allegan; 2 sisters-in-law, Nicky and Bob Leverich of Otsego and Sandy and Mark Pitney of Raleigh, NC; 3 brothers-in-law, Ken Kaylor of Marcellus, Neil and Tanya Kaylor of Gobles and Pete and Deb Kaylor of Allegan; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Leon and Thelma Kaylor; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Don Morse, and infant sister, Louise Nielsen, granddaughter, Alicia Nielsen, sister-in-law, Linda Watson, and "adopted" granddaugher, Courtney Grauman. Friends may meet with the family from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. Pastor Robert Pumfery officiating. Interment Lindsley Cemetery, Cheshire Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice or the Allegan United Methodist Church.
