Schanz, Marion R., of Allegan, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 1, 2016. Mr. Schanz was born February 10, 1941, in Cheshire Twp., the son of William and Ada (Busfield) Schanz. Marion graduated from Otsego High School, Class of 1959. On August 15, 1959, Marion married Shirley E. Laughlin, who survives. Marion's priority has always been his family, he loved to spent time with his wife, kids, and all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and he invested both time and money to make sure they succeeded. One area that he tried to make a difference was at the Otsego Christian Academy. He and his wife have been members at Merson Church since 1975, he enjoyed playing the harmonica, and was skillful at metal fabrication, and loved to farm. He owned and operated Schanz Auto Parts in Gobles from 1965- 1976, he then opened Schanz Tire and Auto Supply in Otsego in 1978, and was still actively operating along with his sons. Marion set a great example of a hard working family man who loved and served his Lord. Also surviving are his 3 children: Richard and Angela Schanz, Timothy Schanz, Robin Schanz; 4 grandchildren: Jason and Alison Schanz, Christine Schanz, Derek Schanz, Khrystie and Brock Sheffer; 7 great grandchildren: Kenny, Khandice, Khalianna, Billie Jo, Millie, Madison, Bentley; 4 brothers: Joe and Linda, David, Dan and Bonnie, Carl and Pat; 4 sisters: Donna and Bud Robart, Eleanor Kolhoff, Evie and Glenn Gorby, Edna Hatfield; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his 2 sisters: Mildred Dockweiler and Dorothy Schanz; and his brother, Robert. Friends may meet with the family on Sunday, June 5, 2016, from 3-6 pm, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 4 pm, at Merson Church. Interment in Mallory Cemetery, Trowbridge Twp. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Otsego Christian Academy, 247 E.
