Heath Twp., Allegan, MI, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the Allegan General Hospital. Mr. Rice was born May 10, 1922 in East Point, KY, the son of John and Willa (Snavely) Rice. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, serving during WWII. His family was his first priority, and he will be sadly missed. He had been employed as a supervisor at Sligh Furniture in Holland, retiring after 28 years. He enjoyed music, and taught guitar and accordion. Surviving are his wife, Florence (Ochampaugh); 5 children, Vickie and Nick Brower, Janis Rice and Marc DeHaan, Roger and Chris Rice, Lori Rice and Bryan and Mary Rice, all of Allegan; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jaime, Erika, Diana, Jackie, Kyle and Kurtis; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 brother Don and Mary Rice of Warren; 1 sister, Betty and Biff Blankenship of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers and sisters. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Private interment Ft Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Memorial contributions may be made to the Battle Creek VA Medical Center.
