Obituary

Allegan, MI, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Allegan General Hospital surrounded by her family. Lucille was born in Kalamazoo, MI, on May 1, 1915 as the first daughter of Arthur G. and Olive J. (Prior) White. At the age of two, she moved to Allegan with her parents and brother Merle. She proudly grew up on the north side of Allegan and was known as a member of the "North Side Gang". The "North Siders" were fiercely loyal and stuck up for one another. She graduated from Allegan High School in 1933. She worked for her future-in-laws at the Bracelin Hotel until she began a two week trial period at the R.B. Huff Dime Store in Allegan. After 45 years at "Ceilly's Store", she retired in 1985. On December 21, 1941, she married Harold J. Falk in Bryan, Ohio. They traveled frequently to Florida and New Mexico. He predeceased her in 1975. She loved antique auctions called by her brother-in-law, Bart Miller, and later Bill TerAvest. She saved her quarters to bet on the sulky horse races at the Allegan County Fair for over 70 years. She also used her quarters to gamble in the casinos in Las Vegas. A highlight of her life was a thirty-day tour of California and Alaska. She loved to hunt for morel and puff ball mushrooms, make hand pulled peanut brittle, rescued sick nieces and nephews from school, delighted in anything chocolate and loved to Christmas shop. She was a member of long standing with the Lady Eagles and the Lady Elks. Lucille was affectionately known by those she held dear as Ceilly and Lulabelle. She and her husband were not blessed with children of their own. They loved their many nieces and nephews. She had the honor of being a great-great aunt to twelve nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, Merle, Ralph and Donald; sister, Marguerite Miller; nephews, Robert White and Thomas White; and niece, Elizabeth Morrie. She is survived by nieces, Mary Ann Miller, Connie White, Linda Sweet and Jackie McIntire and their families, and several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Friends may meet with the family from 3 p.m. Monday until time of funeral service at 4 p.m. Monday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Pastor Barry Lucas officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elizabeth Kay Morrie Scholarship Foundation or Wings of Hope Hospice.
