of Allegan, died Monday, April 13, 2015, at the Wings Home in Allegan. Mrs. Krause was born January 6, 1925, in Sparks, Georgia, the daughter of Allen and Sarah (Carr) Young. She attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY, and John Hopkins University in Baltimore, where she graduated in 1948 with a BS in Nursing. She later earned her Master's degree in Community Health Nursing, from Wayne State University. On September 12, 1947, Liz married Lewis Krause, they moved to Michigan in 1949, and in 1952, they became members of the First Baptist Church, in Allegan. She worked as a nurse for John Hopkins Hospital, Sparrow Hospital, Allegan General Hospital, Allegan County Health Dept., Kalamazoo County Red Cross, Ferris State and Hope/Calvin College Nursing Faculties. She was elected to the Allegan County Social Services Board in 1992. She was a member of American Nurses Assoc., Michigan Public Health Assoc., was active in Wings of Hope Hospice, Child Abuse and Neglect Council, Family Planning, B.P.W., Sylvia's Place, Allegan County Republican Party, American Legion Auxiliary, Allegan County Red Cross. In 1979, Liz was named Allegan Business and Professional Woman of the year, in 1980, she was a nominee for Michigan Public Health Nurse of the Year. In 1992, she was named Allegan County Republican Woman of the year, and in 1993, she was selected by the President Eisenhower People to People Program to represent community health on a teaching tour visit to China. Surviving are her 3 children: Robert and Arlene Krause, Konrad and Terry Krause, Karen and Jim Rix; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis, her daughter: Daphne Lynn, 2 sisters: Imogene and Gueldine; 5 brothers: Albert, Dewey, T.C., Aaron, and James. Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, April 16, 2015, from 6-8 pm, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 am at the First Baptist Church in Allegan, Pastor Nathan Smith will officiate. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wings Home, 530 Linn St., Allegan, MI 49010.
