after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer, Lisa lost the good fight and went home on Sunday, April 18, 2010. She passed away at home with the love and support of her family and her beloved golden retriever and bodyguard, Thai and her other beloved pets. Lisa's journey of late had been spent traveling to and from the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit where she took part in three different breast cancer studies. Our hope is that her legacy will continue on and will touch the lives of other women who may suffer from breast cancer and that through these studies a cure may one day be found. Lisa was born on April 13, 1968 in Allegan, MI, where she lived her entire life. She graduated from Allegan High School and attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College where she studied Elementary Education. She began working at Ruby's Restaurant at the age of 12 and where she continued to work for the next 23 years. She had many friends and loyal customers. She then left Ruby's and began working at the Allegan Medical Clinic where she was employed for nearly seven years. Lisa took a great sense of pride in greeting and serving the community of Allegan. On December 24, 1997, Lisa's favorite time of year, she married Jeff Hopkins of Allegan, who survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Alyssa Leona Hopkins and, Bridgett Leanne Hopkins; mother, Joyce Szabo ; brother, Dustin (Jennifer) Morey; loving in-law's Chuck and Pam Hopkins, Kevin and Debbie (Hopkins) O'Leary, Amy Morey, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews. She is preceded in death by grandparents Les and Eunice Haist; paternal father Larry Morey; stepfather ("Father Bob") Robert Szabo; brother, Darron Morey. The family would also like to thank the many special friends who have supported Lisa throughout her journey. Friend may meet with the family on Wednesday, April 21 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 22, at 11am, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Allegan. Pastor Dean Beckwith officiating. Interment Blackman Cemetery, Trowbridge Township.
