Allegan, MI, died Sunday, January 20, 2008 at his home. Mr. Roe was born January 24, 1933 in Jamestown, N.D., the son of Arthur and Inez (Zimmerman) Roe. He was a 1951 graduate of Buchanon High School, Buchanon, ND, attended N.D. State Agriculture College and served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He started Leonard Roe Inc. in 1957, specializing in drainage construction. He was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Board and the Building Committee. He loved playing cards and chess, watching westerns, his family and working with heavy equipment. Surviving are his wife, Gladys (Kruger), whom he married August 29, 1954 in Jamestown, ND; 2 children, Melissa Pauline Roe Dekkinga and Matthew Leonard Roe, both of Allegan; 4 grandchildren, Sarah and Jery Schulz-Modihi, Emily Jane Schulz, Haley Rose Dekkinga and Abigail Grace Dekkinga; great-grandson, Adam Leonard Modihi; mother, Inez Roe of Fargo, ND; 6 brothers and sisters and their spouses, Weston and Shirley Roe of Austin, TX, Lawrence and Lyn Roe of Canton, TX, Cynthia and Marwin Smith of Sunlakes, AZ, Dennis and Mary Jane Roe of San Diego, CA, Jennifer and Gary Paulsrud of Fargo, ND, and Andrew and Judy Roe of St. Paul, MN. He was preceded in death by his father, and sister, Karen Roe. Friends may meet with the family from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Pastor Ron Bessert officiating. Interment at a later date at Poplar Hill Cemetery, Monterey Twp., MI. Memorial contributions may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice or the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Leonard was an amazing and loving Husband, Dad, Papa, and friend. He always said he was the luckiest man in the world to have us, but we know we are the lucky ones.
