East Lansing, MI, formerly of Hopkins, died Saturday, March 31, 2007. Mr. Brenner was born May 9, 1912 in Monterey Twp., the son of Paul and Elizabeth (Kraft) Brenner. He graduated from Hopkins High School in 1931. On October 28, 1936, in Hopkins, he married Ethel Berens, who preceded him in death. He was a life member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hopkins. He worked as an agent for Standard Oil Company for 25 years. In 1961, he started Brenner Oil Company of Hopkins and worked until he was 87, retiring in 2000. Leonard encouraged and helped his son, Arlen, establish Brenner Oil Company of Holland, which has now grown to be one of the biggest oil distribution companies in Michigan, now owned and operated by his 2 grandsons. Surviving are his daughter, Marlene and Carroll (Jake) Wamhoff of East Lansing; 7 grandchildren, Jerry, Doug, Sheri, Fred, Jeff, Brian and Karen; 18 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Maxine Brenner of Plainwell; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel, son, Arlen, 2 brothers, Otto and Walter, sister, Leona Hornburg and daughter-in-law, Juliann. Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 pm at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hopkins. Pastor Donald Seelhoff officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Church or Grandma's Pad Too.
