Obituary

of Adrian, died Sunday, July 3, 2011. Age 96 years. Leah Pauline Brenner was born April 12, 1915, the daughter of the late David and Hallie (Wheelock) Brenner. She graduated from Allegan High School in 1933. She graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. She then received her Masters Degree in Elementary Supervision from University of Michigan in 1951. Leah taught elementary school for over 40 years, the last 26 years at Calvin Britain School in Benton Harbor. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Allegan. She was married to Karl Schwartz on June 21, 1941; he preceded her in death in 2009. Surviving is one daughter, Thea and David Chambers of Adrian; one granddaughter, Kathrin and Lance Richards of Grand Rapids; one brother, Chester and Evelyn Brenner of Hopkins; one sister, Honor Geneese Woolf of Allegan; one sister-in-law, Ardith Brenner of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Keith Brenner; and one grandson, Joel Chambers. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rev. Ronald Kruse will officiate with burial in Poplar Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Allegan.
