89, of Allegan, passed away at Allegan General Hospital, Saturday, March 23, 2013. He was born August 14, 1923 in Allegan, Michigan, the son of William and Caroline (Belden) Oisten. LaVerne served his country in WW II, where he received several medals, including a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He worked for Imperial Carving and Holland Furniture for several years before going to work and having retired from Rockwell International in Allegan. LaVerne was well known throughout the community for his woodworking and carving, especially his Jewelry Boxes, which he had donated several to different organizations. He also loved the sport of Hunting and Fishing. LaVerne was a born again Christian, member of Allegan First Church of God, where he and his wife Lucille were youth leaders. He served on 2 mission trips to Columbia, South America and Guatemala, Central America. He was a member of the Allegan Conservation Club, the VFW, and the Eagles. Surviving are his 3 daughters: Joan (Covault) Rininger, Marilyn (Covault) (Chester) Oisten, Diana Covault; his grandchildren: Bruce (Donna) Rininger, Kelly Rininger, Denise Wolfe, Tracy (Harold) Bolenbaugh, Kimberly Oisten, Chester Oisten, Jr.; his great-grandchildren: Jason (Michelle), Breanna (Brad), Kyle, Mariah, Nathan, Christopher, Whitney (Joel), Cheyanne, Noah, Tabitha, Dale, Kenny, Holly; great-great grandchildren: Elissa, Randall, Jaxon; many nieces, nephews and cousins. LaVerne is preceded in death by his wife Lucille of 65 years; his two brothers: Melvin, and Albert; his granddaughter Cheryl; and son-in-law Vaughn. Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, March 28, 2013 from 5-6:00 P.M. with the Funeral at 6:00 P.M. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan. Chaplain Kevin Brintnall will be officiating.
