of Allegan. Died Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Katherine Elizabeth LaForge was born in Allegan August 15, 1929, the daughter of the late Bruce LaForge and Gertrude Stein. She was married to John Leonard Sakal on September 22, 1951; he preceded her in death on November 26, 2001. She was a senior partner and owner of the Lil' Red Bakery for 17 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Allegan, where she was active in Kids Hope and Partners in Prayer. Katherine enjoyed cooking, embroidery, gardening and bird watching. Surviving are her son, John J. (Sharon) Sakal and her daughter, Terri Sakal, both of Allegan; and three grandchildren, Rebecca "Becky", Jason and Joseph, all of Allegan. Katherine was preceded in death by her brother, Francis LaForge. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Allegan, 1290 32nd St. Rev. Raymond Mayhew and Rev. Greg Carlson will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice, Allegan General Hospital Foundation-Cancer Fund, or First Baptist Church of Allegan.
