of Hopkins, died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Bronson Methodist Hospital. Karl was born September 18, 1960, the son of Karl and Joann Hellwig, who survive. Karl loved being with friends and family, he had a silly personality, a kind heart, and loved a good or bad joke. He enjoyed the outdoors, and was a self made Horticulturist. He worked in Grand Rapids for 15 years with Total Fire Protection, and the last 2 years he worked at Schaendorf Custom Farming in Monterey Twp. Also surviving are his wife, Theresa, his daughter, Nicole and Kyle Smith, his 2 step children; Tera and Rob Qualls, and Sean Wozniak and his fiancee, Kasie Fifelski, 1 grandson, Eli, his brother, Kerry Hellwig, 4 sisters; Pam Howe, Caryl and Jim MuCullough, Beth and Michael Miller, and Linda and Jim Miller, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle. Friends may meet with the family for a Celebration of Karl's life, on Monday, July 30 from 5-8 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hillards, 1896 135th Ave. A private graveside service will be held at Poplar Hill Cemetery. Karl and his family gave the Gift of Life to many people, so they may live. Memorials may be given in Karl's name to the Gift of Life Program, 3861 Research Park Dr., Ann Arbor, MI 48108.
