Obituary

Julie Ann Milbocker, age 92, of Allegan, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on July 14, 1934, in Gaylord, Michigan, Julie was the second eldest of seven children and the only daughter born to Sylvester and Margaret (Pack) Milbocker. As a child, she traveled throughout northern Michigan with her parents, as her father worked various road construction jobs. The family eventually settled on a farm in Allegan, a place with the acreage and room they needed to grow.

Affectionately nicknamed "Dude" by her brothers, Julie grew up fiercely independent. Small in stature but large in spirit, she refused to be left behind by her six brothers, proudly carrying her single-barrel shotgun into the woods alongside them. Julie attended various local schools over the years, including one-room schoolhouses, before graduating from Allegan High School. Julie dreamed of becoming a teacher. She turned that dream into a vibrant, 42-year career. She was the "fun kind" of teacher, the one who dedicated her days to making sure her students had a great day. Julie’s presence was unmistakable; one booming, infectious "Well hello!" accompanied by her signature chuckle, and you knew exactly who was in the room. She was constantly dreaming up things to make, build, or create, often putting her partner, Wayne, to work helping her build projects for her students or family.

Outside the classroom, Julie was a superstar aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Treating them to special overnights, Hamburger Helper and Jiffy Pop popcorn, building epic snow forts, and leading craft projects—doing whatever it took to make a child happy. She and her longtime partner, Wayne Burton, shared a love for sporting events and adventure, and traveled extensively across the United States.

Julie lived life to the fullest. At age 90, she proudly purchased herself a new John Deere tractor and after some special “height” adjustment for her to reach the accelerator, she could mow her own lawn. Socializing brought her immense joy. She loved meeting friends for lunch, playing games, feeding stray cats, and volunteering at the Allegan County Fairgrounds—especially at the historic Jewett Schoolhouse and The Historical Society. Family and friends could always count on her to bring a dish to pass, frequently showing up to holiday gatherings with orange and carrot Jell-O dessert or broccoli raisin casserole.

Julie will be lovingly remembered for her quick wit, spontaneous spirit, determination, and deep care for others. She is survived by her brother, Michael Milbocker and his wife Onalee; her sisters-in-law Darlene and Shirley Milbocker; several beloved nieces, nephews, and special friends. She was preceded in death by her cherished partner, Wayne Burton; her parents, Sylvester and Margaret; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Buster & Colleen, Robert & Jean, Jim, Gene, and David & Linda.

In keeping with Julie’s wishes, no traditional funeral services will be held. Instead, the family requests that you privately celebrate Julie’s vibrant memory in your own special way.
