Judy went peacefully to be with her Lord on April 24, 2021 in Allegan, Michigan after a seven year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in Owosso, Michigan and was raised in Perry, Michigan. She went on to graduate from Perry High School and the Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music. She served other people throughout her career as a social worker for the State of Michigan and volunteered in the community in many different ways also. She was very active in her church, serving as a deacon, singing in the choir and with the praise team.
She was a most devoted mother and wife and loved her family most of all. She was always her children's biggest supporter and a humanist, willing to help anyone or any good cause. She was beautiful both physically and internally and radiated a warmth that touched everyone she knew. Upon retiring from the Department of Human Services after 30 years of service, she and her husband, Michael, travelled extensively within the United States (to over 25 National Parks) and to three foreign countries. They also purchased a cabin on Drummond Island, Michigan where they spent vacation time in the summer. Judy was always ready for an adventure and active outdoors. She loved biking, kayaking, canoeing, camping, hiking and reading. Above all, she leaves behind a legacy of unshakeable faith in God and love for her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Mike Cullen. Also surviving are her five children, Michelle (Brian Jr.) Johnson, Stephen (Tricia) Wunderlin, Stephanie (Jason) Morris, Erin (Ben) Johns and Ian Cullen. She was blessed with eight grandchildren. Her siblings, Ben (Diane) Shirey and Sharon (Joe) Goodman also survive her. She was preceded in death by Mervin and Ruth Shirey, her parents and her brother, David Shirey, whose wife, Lori, survives. A celebration of Judy's life will be held when all of her extended family can attend at a later date.
