Norby, Joyce M., Allegan, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at the Allegan General Hospital. Mrs. Norby was born May 21, 1932 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Charles & Freda (Freeman) Laberdie. Joyce married Stewart who survivies, on December 24, 1954 and has been an excellent caregiver ever since. Joyce graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1950 with honors, she worked outside the home for Consumers Power, J.C. Penney's and the Avon Company. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Allegan , Joyce loved music, art, knitting and the welfare of all animals. Also surviving are her 2 sons, Steven & Lisa Norby of Ada, and Michael Norby and his friend Jacqueline of Kalamazoo, 1 grandson, Brandon, her mother Freda Hawley of Kalamazoo,1 half sister, Ann Lewis of Florida, 1 cousin Stuart Freeman of Warren. She had many special friends, Charmain Leavitt, Lori Leak, Marylou Smith, Mary Bowlby, Barb Follis the Cronkhites and the Ewings. Joyce was preceded in death by 1 brother in law, Gerald Norby, and her step father Fred Hawley. Friends may meet with the family on Sunday from 5-7 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11 am at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Pastor Bill Spaid from St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Kalamazoo will officiate. Interment Fort Custer National Cemetery, Battle Creek. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Assoc. Or Dr. Kenneth Main's Animal Emergency Fund.
