Joy Gayle Allen, 85, of Allegan, MI passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at home surrounded by her daughters. Born June 11, 1936 in Princeton, KY, she was the daughter of the late James R. Sizemore and Oles B. Gray. At the age of sixteen she married her first and only love, Robert Allen, who proceeded her in death earlier this year. Together they raised four daughters and ensured they had a wonderful childhood full of exciting experiences. The family especially enjoyed their trips together out west. Joy loved to go out to eat; however, her family and friends preferred when she would do the cooking herself! Her fantastic southern cooking, especially her fried chicken, vegetable beef soup, and beef roast with carrots and potatoes, were second to none. Joy enjoyed spending time visiting and going places with her friends and could sometimes spend hours sitting and watching the birds. She also worked at Pet Life Inc. for 35 years as a machine operator. Above all else, her children and family came first. She will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Joy is survived by her children, Sherrye (Larry) VanOrder, Rhonda (Dennis) Boone, Kandy (Steve) Deurloo and Kim Russell; grandchildren, Alisha (Rick) Whitney, Natalie VanOrder, Eric (America) Morgan, Aaron (Heather) Boone, Lacee Boone, Stephany (Ryan) Schafer, Raecale (Brad) Stull, Sadie (Whitney) Bell, Robert Russell and Brett Russell; great grandchildren, Bethany, Baylee and Brayden Schafer, Maizy, Laik, Oedi and Ecco Stull, Hope Lambert, Lydia and Liam Bell, Calvin and Desirae Moyer, Madelynn Whitney, Aveary, Fletcher and Savannah Beilfuss, Blayne Wedge, Ayda and Zander Boone, Karley, Manny, Aaron, Ian and Evangeline Morgan; sister-in-law, Karen Sizemore; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Joe David Sizemore, Jack Sizemore and Jack's wife, Jackie Sizemore. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Hudson Corners Cemetery. A reception will be held at Hartman Conference Center after the graveside services. Service Details.
