Obituary

"Devoted" is the word that best describes Joy Elaine Masek (Miner) who went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2025. She gave her time and resources to her faith in God and family—-both immediate and extended.

Surviving is her husband Jerry, married 68 years, daughter Jayne married to Michael Bailey and their daughter Melissa, daughter Julie married to Lawrence Roy and their children Christina, Patrick and Jeri, and daughter Jaclyn married to Steven Cowing and their children Lyndsy, Caleb and Jacob. She prayed for her grandchildren and their families daily, which included 14 great-grandchildren. Her extended family included many cousins, some double, and several who were like siblings.

Growing up an only child in rural Allegan, born October 7, 1936, to Jesse and Marjorie Miner, she enjoyed farming life, going to country school and time with her Grandma May who taught her many fun and useful domestic things.

Having been taught, she used the knowledge as a 4-H sewing leader and teaching her girls these skills.

Joy's dedication to her work at the Allegan Public Library spanned the careers of three head librarians. While working and raising a family she volunteered for Kid's Hope.

If you were looking for Joy outside of the home, you might find her in the garden, out walking or at Allegan United Methodist Church either attending worship, typing the bulletin, contributing at Bible Study or making cinnamon rolls and pies for an event. She taught Sunday School for several years and one student recalls that Mrs. Masek was the first person to talk to her about the real Jesus.

People say that you could not find a sweeter, more loving person than Joy Masek. You may have been on one of her many prayer lists! She leaves behind a legacy of devotion to a God who loved her and made His Presence known in all the myriads of things to which she put her willing hands.

Joy's funeral service will be Monday, January 20th, at Allegan United Methodist Church at 409 Trowbridge Street, Allegan, MI 49010, starting at 11:00am with an hour visitation beforehand. Private family graveside to follow at Blackman Cemetery. Luncheon will be provided at the conclusion of the Funeral at the UMC fellowship hall.
