Obituary

of Bloomingdale, formerly of Allegan. Died Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Age 98 years. He was born February 22, 1913 and was raised by Carrie and Marion Merchant. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Allegan, where he served as a deacon. He worked as a foreman for Rockwell Standard International. He served the Michigan National Guard. He was married to Thelma (Edwards) Watts on November 27, 1933; she preceded him in death in 1997. He married Dorothy Thompson on October 10, 1998; she survives him. Surviving besides his wife are four children, Carolyn (Stone) Bair of South Haven, Wilma Brabon of Plainwell, William Watts of Douglas and Juanita and Dewey Ellis of Paw Paw; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Watts; a daughter, Ruth LaVonne; three grandchildren; and two sons-in-law, Dick Stone and Ronald Bair. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, November 19, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Allegan , where the funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Greg Carlson will officiate with burial in Lindsley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wings Home of Allegan. Arrangements by Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.
