of Allegan, died Friday, July 30, 2010 at his home. Mr. Spreitzer was born May 11, 1921, in Allegan, the son of Mathew and Catherine (Kowalski) Spreitzer. Joe graduated from Allegan High School Class of 1938, he was a member of the Blessed Sacarment Catholic Church for over 45 years, and a Veteran of the United States Navy. Joe was the last Presidential Appointed Postmaster in the United States, he retired from the Allegan Post Office in 1986 after 20 years of service. He also loved to farm and spent many years in the Allegan area tending to the land. Surviving are his wife, Anne, whom he married on November 3, 1945, 9 children; Mary Spreitzer and Dennis Brower, Marky Spreitzer and Al Chudek, Karl and Connie, Jim and Kathy, Fritz and Linda, Matt and Denise, Elizabeth "Lily" Teed, Marisa McNeely, and Peter and Lori, 28 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Mat "Jack" and Helen Spreitzer and Donald and Janice Spreitzer. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jason. Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday from 4-6 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the Rosary will be recited at 6pm. The memorial mass will be held at 11 am on Wednesday at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Alan P. Jorgensen, Celebrant. Interment Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wings of Hope Hospice.
