Obituary

of Allegan Twp., died Sunday, April 14, 2013, at his home town in Allegan. Mr. Palenick was born November 10, 1919 ,in Chicago, the son of John M. and Justina (Klico) Palenick. John grew up on a farm in the Gun Lake area, where he and his brother owned and operated the Gun Lake store and service station for many years. He worked at Rockwell International in Allegan for 37 years, and worked for the Allegan County Sheriff Dept as a Reserve for 20 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII, in North Africa, Germany, and Italy. John and his wife owned and operated the Allegan Motel from 1960-1970's. He was a devoted life time member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and was an usher, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges, VFW, and the American Legion. John loved to garden and always had a bountiful harvest which he loved to share with friends and family. Surviving are his 3 son's; Tom and Kim, John and Diane, Jim and Suzanne, 5 grandchildren; Thomas, Amanda, Vincent, Aubrey, and Austin, 1 great granddaughter, Layla, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne, and his 8 brothers and sisters. Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday, April 17, from 6-8 pm, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the Rosary will be recited at 6pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11 am at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Allegan. Rev. Fr. Alan P. Jorgensen will officiate. Interment at the Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Love Inc. Food Pantry, 3370 113th Ave., Allegan, MI 49010
