Obituary

Allegan, Michigan, died January 7, 2007 at Fountainview Assisted Living in Coopersville. Mr. Katherler was born July 31, 1910, the son of John and Avada (Shook) Katherler. He was a life-long resident of Allegan, graduating from Allegan High School and a business school in Kalamazoo before marrying Thelma (Wannbaugh) on June 21, 1935. He had worked at Blood Brothers/Rockwell International as an administrative manager for 37 years, retiring in March, 1974. John was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, where he was a Vestry member and Treasurer for 16 years and received the Bishop's Cross from the Western Michigan Diocese for his dedication to the Church. He was also active in the community. serving on the Allegan City Planning Commission for 25 years, the Allegan City Board of Review for 10 years, and the Board of the Allegan Public Schools for 9 years, 7 of which he was president of the school board. He is an Emeritus Life Associate of the Institute of Management Accountants and was awarded the Outstanding Community Service Award. Surviving are 3 children and their spouses, John and Carol Katherler of California, Sylvia and Allen Pixley of Monroe, and Diane and Warren Lessien of Coopersville; 4 granddaughters; 3 great-granddaughters and 1 great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma, in 2002 and a sister, Eunice Pahl. Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 12 noon at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Allegan. Fr. William R. Whiting officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 101 N. Walnut, Allegan, MI 49010 or to Fountainview Assisted Living, 640 Randall St., Coopersville, MI 49404.
