View Photo Tribute John "Hans" Ilmberger, of Monterey Twp., Allegan, died peacefully at his son's home March 23, 2004. Mr. Ilmberger was born December 26, 1907 in Rohrbach, Germany, the son of Mathias & Anna (Weber) Ilmberger. John came to the United States in 1927, he settled in Chicago and became a baker and eventually owned his own bakery. On May 10, 1937 in Chicago, John married Elfriede Metzger who survives. In 1950 they moved to a farm in South Monterey, and have been members of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for over 50 years. Also surviving are his son, John J. and Joyce Ilmberger of Allegan, 3 grandchildren, Robin & Ward Granger, Carol Lynn & Randy Sneller and John Jay & Leah Ilmberger, 4 great grandchildren, D.J. Bentley, Sam & Joe Granger and Macy Ilmberger, 1 brother, Ulrich of Germany, 1 sister in law, Drusilla Ilmberger, and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by several brothers & sisters. Friends may meet with the family on Friday from 6-8 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where a scripture service will be held at 6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11 am at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Jerome H. Heyman O.S.A. Celebrant. Interment in the Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Church or Wings of Hope Hospice.
