of St. Paul, MN, formerly of Allegan, died Saturday, June 22, 2013 at her home. Jeanne was born November 19, 1946, in Chicago, the daughter of William and Anne (Vriend) Nolan. She graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in 1965, did her undergraduate work at Brown University, majoring in English, and did her graduate work in education at the University of Iowa. A passionate educator who began her career at the Standing Rock Reservation in South Dakota and the Iowa State Juvenile Home, before specializing in multicultural education and literacy at the University of Iowa, the University of Washington, Grinnell College, and the Meskwaki Settlement School in Iowa. She most recently worked for the Kalamazoo Dept. of Public Safety. Jeanne volunteered as a genealogist for Allegan County; delighted in traveling; loved music and playing the piano; enjoyed reading about architecture, medieval history, classical music, and opera; and relished reading and spending time with her granddaughters. Surviving are her four children, Kirkja Janson, Tor Janson, Per Janson, and Lara Janson; her former husband, Richard Janson; her two granddaughters, Annika and Anneli; her brother Bill and Marilyn Nolan Jr.; her two sisters, Barbara Toffolo and Pat Nyhan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, William Nolan. Friends may meet with the family on Friday, June 28, from 6-8pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 29, at 11 am at the First Congregational Church in Allegan, 323 Cutler St. Pastor Barry Lucas will officiate.
