Obituary

of Allegan, entered eternal life peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2011, in Grand Rapids. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Weldon Rumery, and her brothers George, Donald, Bill, and Charlie Welty. Jeanette was born May 25th, 1918, in Amboy, Illinois, to George and Edna Welty. Jeanette was generous of spirit, and dedicated her passion over the years to numerous school, religious and community organizations. A proud graduate of the University of Illinois, Jeanette influenced many young lives as an elementary school teacher. She was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church, and member of the Altar Society. Jeanette's interests led to her involvement with the Elk's Club, the Allegan Historical Society, as a volunteer at the Allegan General Hospital, and in the Allegan Community Players, where she first met her husband, Weldon. Jeanette also gave to her community by serving as the chairperson of the city's Bicentennial Celebration, on various community boards, and as Mayor of the City of Allegan. Jeanette loved the time she spent volunteering and attending the Allegan County Fair with her husband Weldon, and later sharing this experience with her grandchildren. A skilled bridge and cribbage player and avid golfer, Jeanette enjoyed time spent on these activities with her friends well into her later life. Jeanette was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her giving nature, quick wit, and love for life endeared her to all who met her, and her memory will be cherished by many. Jeanette is survived by her sons Patrick (Betty) Rumery, of Florida, Steve Rumery, of Allegan, and John (Leanne Challa), of Grand Rapids; her grandchildren Patrick (Susan) Rumery, of Florida, Scot (Liza), of Allegan, and Jack, Rose, and Nora Rumery, of Grand Rapids; great-grand-children Sean, Megan, and Luna; her sisters Helen Maguire, Liz (Mort) Kier, and Frances Welty, all of California; special friend Cis Powell; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. A mass of celebration will take place at Blessed Sacrament Church in Allegan, MI, on Thursday, April 28th, 2011, at 11am, Father Alan Jorgenson officiating. Family and friends are asked to join the family to celebrate Jeanette's life at The Silo at The Grill House following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Allegan General Hospital Foundation or Hospice of West Michigan. Arrangement by the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.
