Jean Ann Barnum, 83, of Miner Lake in Allegan, Michigan passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019 surrounded by her family. Born July 17, 1935 in East Chicago, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes McGuan. Jean's favorite pastime was spending time with her husband Edward, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (and her loyal dog, Phineas). Family meant a great deal to Jean, and they all had a wonderful time whenever they were together. She loved to play card games and board games with family, all gathered around the large dining room table. She had a sense of humor, infectious spirit, and feisty personality that people enjoyed being around. Her legacy lives on through her family, and they will remember her as a caring and loving person with a fun-loving personality. She adored them and they adored her.
Jean was quite a seamstress, sewing outfits and beautiful Christmas tree skirts and also doing embroidery. One of her "claims to fame" was her festive Christmas shirts that lit up, which were quite a conversation piece and brought a smile to everyone who encountered them. She was also a member of the local quilters group and enjoyed the camaraderie with the other quilters. When she wasn't quilting or sewing, she enjoyed reading and just being at her house on the lake and swimming. She also enjoyed many adventures sailing the Caribbean and seeing beautiful sites with her husband.
Jean is survived by her loving husband, Edward; her five children, Nancy (Rich) Pierce, Dan (Jodi) Barnum, Kevin (Carol) Barnum, Tom Barnum, and Elizabeth (Richard) Lippitt; nine grandchildren, Tracy, Erik, Carrie, Jackie, Amber, Ryan, Tyler, Emily, and Grace; and five great-grandchildren, Elinor, Reid, Quinn, Ari and Asher; and her brother Larry (Margaret) McGuan. She was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, Judge, and Dan; her sister, Mary Kay; and her grandson, Clay.
Memorial donations may be made in Jean's name to Wings of Hope Hospice, 530 Linn Street, Allegan, MI 49010. Per Jean's wishes, cremation has taken place.
