Obituary

Jay Shawn Tyler of Hopkins MI went to be with his Heavenly Father on September 19, 2020. He was born February 8, 1964 in Rock Island, Illinois to Donald and Jonna (Mott) Tyler. Jay is survived by his beautiful wife, Cindy (Lewison) Tyler; his son, Jonathan (Amber) Tyler; his daughter, Shana (Charles III) Anderson; five grandkids, Serenity and Dominic Anderson; Camden, Macaila and Alison Tyler; his mother, Jonna (Mott) Tyler; his mother-in-law, Aileen (Kent) Lewison; his two siblings, Jerry Tyler and Rhonda Lewison; his brother-in-law, Roger (Susan) Lewison; his sisters-in-law, Lori (Roger) Schutte, Terri (Richard) Ragsdale and Cathy Jacobs; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Tyler and father-in-law, Roland Lewison. Jay embodied what is written in Scripture in Ephesians 4:1-3, which states, "As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle, be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." Jay's mission in life was to bring as many people to the Lord while he was here in this earthly body. He wanted all to come together for the purpose of unity in Christ. His wife would want to leave everyone knowing that his life's purpose was to fulfill Jesus' desire that he prayed to the Father in John 17. "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, who you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do…. My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one. I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved them. Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world." Jay would want us to grieve the loss of his earthly body, but only for a short time. He would want us to be filled with joy knowing that he came to do the work the Lord had given him to do while on this earthly home. His family leaves you with this, "For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:6-7). Continue the work of unity for Christ and go Spread the Gospel to all.
