Cooper Twp., Kalamazoo, MI, died at home Sunday, January 14, 2007 and was ushered into the presence of his Lord and Savior. Jim was born August 31, 1951 in Kalamazoo, the son of Anthony and Gladys (Youderian) Stuifbergen. He graduated from Plainwell High School in 1969 and from Michigan State University in 1973. He was co-owner and operator, with his partner and best friend, Brian Lounsberry, of Vankal Heating and Cooling in Gobles for more than 14 years. He was an active member of the Merson Church, serving on the Church Board. He loved sports and carpentry and was an avid football player and golfer. He was a devoted husband and father and was very active in the lives of his sons, coaching them as they participated in many team sports. Surviving are his wife, Beverly (Woodhams), whom he married May 14, 1977; 3 sons, Adam, Jonathan and Stephen; mother, Gladys Stuifbergen of Kalamazoo; mother-in-law, Maxine Woodhams, Beverly's loving and devoted sister, Jan and Bob Kesling and sister-in-law, Bonnie Woodhams, all of Allegan; several close cousins, including Nathan and Linda Brown, Dan and Beverly Brown, Connie and Alan Muiser, Bonnie Williams, David Brown, and Bill and Joyce Stuifbergen; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Jim fought a courageous battle with ALS and the family appreciated all the many loving and devoted care givers, including Desiree Kates, Sue and Dave Allen, Shari VerMeulen and Seva Swan and the many dear friends from the Merson Church and the Borgess G.I. Lab Dept. He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony, father-in-law, Merril Woodhams, brother-in-law, Doug Woodhams, loving aunt, Alberta Brown, and cousin, Anita Brown. Friends may meet with the family from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m at the Merson Church.
