of Allegan. Passed away, Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Life Care Plainwell. Jim was born in Cadillac, MI on September 20, 1930. He was the son of Ruben and Alta (Spitler) Soderquist. Jim graduated from Cadillac High School in 1948. It was in school that he met the love of his life, Ruth Cleveland. They were married October 8, 1948. Jim was a member of the Naval Reserve for the first 7 years of their marriage. Jim and Ruth moved to Allegan, MI in 1954, where they raised 4 sons. Jim was employed at Valley Metal Products for 20 years. Then, he worked at Joseph E. Loughead of Kalamazoo, until he retired in 1992. Jim really enjoyed his coin collecting hobby. He was very knowledgeable about coins and he could engage you in a very informative conversation about his collection. Jim was a real history buff. During his leisure time he enjoyed reading a good history book or watching the history channel (of course, that was after he had watched an old Western and a couple of his favorite Soaps). He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions, never missing a game. Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, and their 4 sons, Terry (Michelle) Soderquist of Coloma, Jeff (Sandi) Soderquist of Charlevoix, Michael (Sandy) Soderquist of Kalamazoo, David (Cheryl) Soderquist of Plainwell; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his only sister, Bertha; and his parents. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial is to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Parkinson Foundation. Arrangements by Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.
