James D. Simonds, age 84, of Allegan, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Allegan County Medical Care Community in Allegan, Michigan. Mr. Simonds was born in Leguire, Oklahoma, the son of the late John and Alta (Harvey) Simonds. After high school, James served his country as a Private in the United States Marine Corp. When he completed his time in the service, he became a farmer and simultaneously worked at Brown Company, a paper mill in Kalamazoo, Michigan. James also hauled various freight working as a truck driver. Although he stayed quite busy working the farm and handling his other jobs, James somehow found time to engage in his love of the outdoors by fishing and hunting. He is survived by 4 of his sons: Dale (Lucy), Ralph (Ruth), LaVern, and Michael (Deb); 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; son, Ted Simonds; 2 brothers: John and Allen; and 1 sister, Ersi. A military graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Fort Custer Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
