died Friday, December 23, 2005 at the Allegan General Hospital. Mr. O'Connell was born April 24, 1935 in Allegan, the son of James and Amelia (Hinkle) O'Connell. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and had retired from the State Highway Dept. in 1989. Surviving are his wife, Lois (Weber); 4 children, Deborah and Doug Hoffman of Allegan, Sally and Jim DeBruyn of Kalamazoo, James "Jay" O'Connell of Holland and Paul O'Connell of Allegan; 7 grandchildren, Shannon (Mike) Lopez, Nathan Hoffman, Ryan (Amy) Hoffman, Alison (Justin) Tumlinson, Sarah DeBruyn, Josh DeBruyn, and Zach DeBruyn; 3 great grandchildren, Elena and Michael Lopez, Madison Tumlinson; 3 brothers, Roy and Judy O'Connell of Allegan, Bob and Naomi O'Connell of Venice, FL, and Mike and Donna O'Connell of Allegan; 2 sisters, Patty and John Mackey and Linda Lange, all of Allegan; 1 aunt, Barb Hinkle of Allegan; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may meet with the family from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel,where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Jerome M. Heyman, O.S.A., Celebrant. Interment in the Church Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Heart/Stroke Association or the American Cancer Society.
