Obituary

Gladwin, MI, on the morning of October 6, 2008 the good Lord called his son, James (Jim) John Lowman home. Mr. Lowman was born August 15, 1927 in Comstock, MI, the son of Oscar and Myrtle (Crane) Lowman. Jim was first and foremost a man of God, but also a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He spent the best 64 years of his life with his wife, Kathryn Ann (Bolhuis) Lowman. Together they raised four children, Jim and Cheryl Lowman of E. Lansing, MI, Kathy and Larry Goodrich of Arlington, TX, Dave and Cindy Lowman of Hopkins, MI, and Frankie Marcell of Arlington, TX. He was also loved and will be dearly missed by his 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leslie Lowman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WWII. He spent 26 years working for the Michigan State Highway Dept., taking care of local roadways. But his most important job came after he gave his life over to the Lord. To many, Jim was known as Pastor Lowman, presiding over the Pullman Country Chapel, the Pentecostal Church of Detour Village and most recently, Hockaday Community Church in Gladwin. Jim also performed marriages for most of his grandchildren, as well as for many in his church family across the state. He never minced any words, and in one of his final conversations with a granddaughter, he said, "Hey, if I don't see you again, you're invited to my funeral." She responded and told him not to say things like that. He said, "Well, you are!" Friends may meet with the family from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. A celebration of Jim's life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Hopkins Community Reformed Church. Interment, after a luncheon at the church, will be held at Miner Cemetery, Watson Twp., MI. Contributions may be made to Hockaday Community Church, Gladwin. "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." John 3:17
