82, of Hopkins, died July 18, 2013 at his home. He was born on March 28, 1931 in Plainwell, Michigan, the son of Halden and Ethel (Leggett) Hazen. James graduated from Hopkins High School in 1949. He was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus - Hilliards, the Wayland V.F.W., and the Hopkins Athletic Boosters. James ran the Hopkins High School football time clock for over thirty years. He had a love for all sports. James is survived by his beloved wife Ruth; his children: Julie (Larry) Switek, Bob (Sue) Hazen, Terry (Darrell) Ratliff, Tracy (Tom) Iciek, Rick (Michelle) Hazen; his thirteen grandchildren; his seven great-grandchildren; his brothers: Jerry (Alice) Hazen, and Jack (Elaine) Hazen. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter Stephanie Switek; his brother Bruce Hazen; and his parents. Friends may meet with the family on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel from 2-4:00 P.M. and 6-8:00 P.M. Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. Father Christian Johnston will be the Celebrant. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
