Hopkins, MI, died Monday, July 31, 2006 at the Allegan General Hospital. Mr. Battjes was born November 2, 1927 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Henry & Eva (Evans) Battjes. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy. He had worked for more than 30 years in Grand Rapids for G.M. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Phyllis (Simmons), 2 children, Dixie Battjes of Hopkins and Jim & Tonya Battjes of Allegan; 4 grandchildren, James, Amber, Abe and Brian, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Friends may meet with the family Wednesday from 12 noon until service time at 1 p.m. at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. Mr. Comer Skinner officiating. Interment Poplar Hill Cemetery, Monterey Twp. Michigan.
