Obituary

Allegan Twp., MI, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 in Grand Haven. Mr. Bender was born March 7, 1932 in Allegan, the son of Earl and Esther (Duryea) Bender. He was a graduate of Allegan High School, class of 1950. He had been employed for 15 years at the Allegan Dairy as a milkman and 8 years at the Flashes. In the early 1980's, he started J.B. Neon, retiring in the mid 1990's. He had designed and made signs for more than 30 years. He loved to hunt, including waterfowl and deer, loved fishing, traveling, playing tennis, golfing and archery. Surviving are his wife, Charlene (McNutt); 1 daughter, Vicki and Joe Butcher of Grand Haven; 5 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Mike and Sandy Bender of Allegan, Tom and Pam Bender of Florida, and Bill and Cathy Bender of Allegan; 1 sister, Judy Bray of Florida; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; 1 sister-in-law, Carolyn Hays. He was preceded in death by his son, James L. Friends may meet with the family from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. Pastor Joseph Phipps officiating. Interment Rowe Cemetery, Cheshire Twp., MI. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Wings of Hope Hospice.
