of Allegan, died at his home, Saturday, July 23, 2011. Mr. Thiel was born September 27, 1934, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Melvin and Ruth (May) Thiel. Jack graduated from Edon High School in Ohio, received his Bachelors degree from Hillsdale, and his Masters from Western Michigan University. He worked for the Allegan Public Schools from 1962 - 1989 as both a teacher and counselor at the Middle and High Schools. On August 3, 1963, Jack married Susan Frances Evans, in Davison, Michigan. Jack loved his family, they were the most important thing in his life, he loved music, gardening, photography, traveling, and his church. He directed both the Methodist and the Congregational church choir. He enjoyed attending and photographing his grandchildrens sporting events. Surviving are his wife, Sue, 4 children; Dallas and Lauren Thiel of Byron Center, Marisa and Michael Wieger of Niles, Christina Thiel of Hamilton, and Matthew and Nikole Thiel of Allegan, 6 grandchildren; Logan, Allie, Hugh, Chapin, Cade, and Dallas, 2 sisters; Doris Thiel of Reading, and Donna Thiel of Allegan, 1 sister-in-law, Lois Thiel of Ohio, 1 brother-in-law, Dallas and Karen Evans of Davison, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene. Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm, July 27, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 am at the United Methodist Church in Allegan, Pastors Robert Stover and Barry Lucas will officiate. Memorials may be made to the music programs at the Methodist church or the Congregational church, or the Dollars for Scholars in Allegan.
