Allegan, MI, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo. Mrs. Buursma was born Nov. 29, 1920 in Zeeland, the daughter of Henry and Jennie (Jekel) VanderWeide. She was a graduate of Zeeland High School, Class of 1938 and had been employed as a Ward Clerk at Allegan General Hospital for 22 years. Surviving are 2 children and their spouses, George and Kathryn Buursma of Grand Rapids and Jennifer and Paul King of Charlotte, NC; 4 grandchildren, Tim (Dawn) Buursma, Ted (Kara) Buursma, Corey King and Zachary King; 4 great grandchildren, Madison, MacKenzie, Morgan and Clayton; 1 sister, Helen Klinger of Zeeland; 1 brother-in-law, Leon DeMaat of Holland; 3 sisters-in-law, Mary Jane VanderWeide of Zeeland, Hess Buursma of Holland and Esther Mae (Wilfrey) Airey of California; special cousin, Leonard "Bus" Buursma of Holland; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 2001. There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Pastor John Zwyghuizen officiating. Interment at a later date in Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Holland. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Allegan Food Pantry.
