HAYES, Iris of Holland, formerly of Allegan, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at The Inn at Freedom Village. Mrs. Hayes was born Oct. 12, 1906 in Trowbridge Twp., the daughter of Stephen and Alice (Frue) Drury. She had lived with her husband on their farm, which was established in 1883, and remains in the family today. She enjoyed weaving and knitting. She attended the Allegan Co. Normal and WMU and taught in the Allegan Co. Rural Schools and the Allegan Public School system, retiring in 1970. Surviving are 3 children, Ann Hayes Retford of Holland, Bob Hayes of Allegan and Jack (Jean) Hayes of Elgin, IL; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 1990 and a sister, Evelyn Brown. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mallory Cemetery, Trowbridge Twp. Mr. Jim Davis officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Merson Church. A reception, at the Trowbridge Twp. Hall, will follow the graveside service. Arrangements by the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.
