Obituary

Burnips, MI, died Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Railside Living Center in Byron Center. Mrs. Selby was born September 12, 1923 in Salem Twp., the daughter of Perle & Emma (Strickfaden) Goodman. Irene worked in the United States Post Office in Burnips for more than 30 years as the Postmaster. She is survived by 2 children, Mary Lou & Art Fleser of Dorr and Roger & Cheryl Selby of Burnips; 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother, Perle "Jr" & Vonnie Goodman of Dorr; 3 sisters, Donna Wicks of Hopkins, Ethel & Bud Warren of Hamilton, and Esther Selby of Hopkins; 1 brother-in-law, Hollis VanderKolk of Dorr; 2 sisters-in-law, Emily Goodman of Dorr and Darlene Goodman of Iowa; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a very special friend, Bev Gerard of Dorr. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Chuck; daughter, Margaret; great granddaughter Nicole; 2 sisters, Eleanor VanderKolk and Velma Jager; 2 brothers, Tucker & Lester Goodman; and 1 brother-in- law, Bud Selby. Friends may meet with the family from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 am. Pastor Tony Shumaker from the Burnips United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment Salem Twp. Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. or the Holland Home Hospice in Grand Rapids.
