Obituary

of Allegan, passed away at his home Tuesday, February 15, 2011. Howard was born March 15, 1923 in Spring Lake, Michigan, to Ralph and Lizzie Workman. He has been a resident of Allegan for over fifty years and was a member of the Allegan Assembly of God. Howard attended Spring Lake High School through the tenth grade and graduated from Grand Haven High School. He proceeded on to attend Muskegon Junior College for two years and graduated college from Michigan State University. He played baseball and basketball for both Muskegon Junior College and Michigan State University. After graduating from MSU, Howard went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. When he returned from serving in the U.S. Navy, Howard completed four more years of college at the University of Detroit Dental School. He was an avid sports player and fan who really enjoyed baseball, basketball and golf. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Lizzie Workman. Surviving are his wife, Brenda Workman of Allegan; three step-daughters, Sheila Frisch, Pam Smecka and Glenda Ann Strojny, all of Plainwell; his three children, Ellen Crawford of New Jersey, Ted Workman of Jupiter, Florida and Julie Frederick of Portage; and six grandsons. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where a funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Pastor Al Lambert and Pastor Paul Hayes will officiate with burial in Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Heartland Hospice of Kalamazoo or the Allegan Assembly of God Church.
