Obituary

87, of Allegan, Michigan left this earth to be with his heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, while surrounded by family in his home. Born at Allegan Community Hospital to Lewis and Alice Hough on September 10, 1928, Hollis thoroughly enjoyed his long life as an Allegan County resident. Hollis was a passionate man who simultaneously worked hard as a farmer (70 years), builder (60 years) and Allegan Township clerk (43 years). He began his farming career at the age of 17 on the family farm of Roy Wilcox, his grandfather. Hollis served diligently at First Baptist Church of Allegan as a trustee for many years and also constructed the steeple for the new building. Some of the hobbies Hollis enjoyed with his family were making maple syrup and playing the trumpet and bass. A graduate of Allegan High School in 1946, Hollis starred on the Varsity basketball team earning awards for the highest scorer. It was at Allegan High where he met his bride of 64 years, Evelyn Findley. Hollis is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn; sons Scott (Linda) of Fairfax Station, Virginia and Steve of Allegan; brothers David (Betty) of Edwardsburg, Michigan and Gene (Pat) of Allegan; sister Betty Orweller (Dennis) of Allegan; eight grandchildren, Nathaniel (Allison), Bryson, Moriah, Wyatt and Shannah, Alexander (Macayla), Jesse and Leon, as well as many nephews and nieces. Hollis will be remembered as a loyal husband, father and grandfather who often entertained his family with tall tales of his daily construction site adventures and will be greatly missed. A special thank you to many members of First Baptist Church and to Wings of Hope Hospice for their loving care and support. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Friday, December 11th at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services for Hollis will be at the First Baptist Church on Saturday, December 12th at 3:00 PM, Pastors Nathan Smith and Greg Carlson officiating. Hollis will be laid to rest at Hudson Corners Cemetery and will be attended by his extended family. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1290 32nd Street (M-40 S), Allegan, MI 49010 and Wings of Hope Hospice, 530 Linn Street, Allegan, MI 49010.
