Monterey Twp., Michigan, died Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at the Allegan County Medical Care Facility. Mrs. Ashley was born May 26, 1915 in Hopkins Twp., the daughter of Eugene and Amy (Allen) Smith. She graduated from Allegan High School and attended the Trowbridge United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and was a member of the "Young at Heart" at the Monterey Center United Methodist Church. She was an avid golfer, played at a neighborhood bi-weekly card party, was a 4-H leader and never missed an Allegan County Fair from the age of 6. She was a long-time member of the Allegan Draft Horse and Mule Assoc., a life-time member of the Prairieville Farm Days and a member of the Mule Pulling Assoc. Surviving are 3 children and their spouses, William and Susan Ashley of Allegan, Linda and Delbert Tiller of Gobles and Ronald and Dalene Ashley of Delton; 7 grandchildren, Mike, Jackie, Sandra, Mark, Matt, Tod, and Shane; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Kenneth Smith of W. Palm Beach, FL and Basil and Henrietta Smith of Allegan; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clare, in 1999. Friends may meet with the family from 3-5 & 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. Pastor Gary Wales officiating. Interment Poplar Hill Cemetery, Monterey Twp., MI. Memorial contributions may be made to the Allegan Co. Medical Care Facility.
