Henry "Hank" Joseph Shorkey, Jr., 91 of Gobles, Michigan went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Ascension Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Born March 10, 1930 in Rogers City, Michigan, he was the son of the late Henry Joseph and Kunegunda (Skiba) Shorkey, Sr. and the husband of the late Jacquelyn "Jackie" Ann (LaHaie) Shorkey. Hank was a devoted Catholic, serving as a Eucharistic Minister at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Allegan and attending daily Mass. His faith led him in life and he had a true calling to give to others. He served honorably in the United States Army, graduated from Central Michigan University, and spent his career with General Motors as a computer systems analyst, while residing in Utica, MI. When his children were young, Hank was actively involved with the Boy Scouts and enjoyed helping to shape the youth, including guiding all three of his sons to Eagle Scout status.
Hank retired from GM in 1988, and moved with his wife Jackie to Gobles, where they spent the next ten years together until her untimely death in 1998. Since then, Hank has enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and loved to play cribbage and watch Jeopardy almost daily. He loved visiting the Amish store or other stores, making his purchases and then giving them away to others. Hank was a father who always took care of his family and was there for them whenever they needed him. He never missed a birthday, anniversary or special occasion, and always took the time to pick the perfect card for each loved one he celebrated. He was generous with his family and others, while personally leading a very non-materialistic life. Hank's love, care and concern for his family is the legacy that he has passed on to his children.
Hank is survived by his children, Henry Joseph "Joe" (Roseann) Shorkey, III, Lorie (Dan) Wahmhoff, John (Debbie) Shorkey, Jennifer (Jim) Dzialowski and Paul Shorkey; his grandchildren, Henry Joseph "Joey" (Amanda) Shorkey IV, Rebecca Wahmhoff, Timothy (Kim) Wahmhoff, Kristen Wahmhoff, Nicole Wahmhoff, Michael Shorkey, Danielle Shorkey, Angela Shorkey, Sarah (Jon) McGeorge, Veronica Dzialowski, Bernadette Dzialowski, Katherine Dzialowski and Margaret Dzialowski; his great-grandchildren, Samanatha Sanday, Henry Joseph Shorkey V, Gabriel Wahmhoff, Lucy Wahmhoff and Samuel McGeorge; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife, Jackie, and his parents, Hank was preceded in death by his four siblings, Henrietta Liske, Raymond Shorkey, Robert Shorkey and Dorothy Tolzdorf; and two grandchildren, Jessica Shorkey and Stephen Dzialowski.
