Henry "Bob" Thornon Winchester, III, 74 of Kalamazoo, Michigan passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Medilodge of Westwood in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Born September 17, 1947 in Allegan, Michigan, he was the son of the late HT Jr. and Kathryn (Tripp) Winchester. Bob graduated from Allegan High School, Class of 1965 and then went on to Olivet College where he graduated with a Bachelor degree in Physics. He became the owner and operator of Winchester Electric and also spent time as an electrical inspector, which earned his boys plenty of drivers training time taking him from job to job. One of Bob's pride and joy was his 1969 Road Runner. In the 70's he loved taking it to the Martin Drag Strip. Through the years, Bob was also known to others as "Golden Toe", "Mr. Automatic", as well as "Coach", but "Bob" seemed to be the name that stuck the most.
Bob was a huge sports fan and enjoyed coaching little league baseball for many years. He was also an official for high school football. One of his favorite stories was sharing how one of his little league teams played against Derek Jeter in a tournament. It seemed to always make him grin. His favorite baseball player was Mickey Mantle and his favorite team was the New York Yankees. Bob was a huge U of M football fan holding season tickets for decades, thus becoming an usher and giving him more time to talk sports to other fans. His love for sports shown through and he took a lot of pleasure in attending or watching sporting events. Bob loved to let people know that he was a descendant of Boss Weeks and the Weeks family from his father's side and was related to the first Perrigo (Luther Perrigo 1887) on his mother's side. He was a hard worker, but always took time to be there for his two boys and his grandchildren. Watching his grandchildren play baseball always brought him great joy. He was very proud of his sons and adored his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his two sons, Dan Winchester and Mike Winchester; five grandchildren, Thomas, Travis, Olin, Mason and Raegan; and one brother, Ted Winchester.
